Amana Dishwasher Error Code F7 E1 — Heating Element Failure

Advanced DIY 30–60 minutes Tools: Torx screwdriver, Multimeter, Adjustable wrench

What this means

Error code F7 E1 indicates the dishwasher's heating element is not raising the water temperature as expected. The element may have burned out, its wiring may be damaged, or the control board's heater relay may have failed. Dishes will not be properly sanitized or dried.

Alternate codes: F7E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the hot water supply

Run the kitchen hot water faucet until the water is hot before starting the dishwasher. If your water heater temperature is set too low, the dishwasher's heater may be overwhelmed.

Set your water heater to 120°F for optimal dishwasher performance.

2

Test the heating element

Unplug the dishwasher, remove the lower kick plate, and disconnect a wire from the heating element terminal. Use a multimeter to test resistance across the element terminals — it should read 10–30 ohms.

Also test between each terminal and the metal tub for a ground fault — it should read OL (open).

3

Check element wiring

Inspect the wiring from the heating element to the control board for burnt, damaged, or loose connections.

The wire terminals at the heating element can burn and corrode from heat — look for discolored or melted connectors.

4

Replace the heating element

If the element is open or shorted, drain the dishwasher, remove the retaining nut from underneath, and pull the old element out from inside the tub. Install the replacement.

Apply a thin layer of plumber's putty around the new element's mounting to ensure a watertight seal.

When to call a professional

If the heating element and wiring are fine, the control board's heater relay may have failed, requiring board-level diagnosis.
