F6 E1

Amana Dishwasher Error Code F6 E1 — Water Fill Timeout

Easy Fix 15–30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Bucket, Towel, Flashlight

What this means

The F6 E1 error code on Amana dishwashers indicates the appliance was unable to detect an adequate water level after the fill valve opened. This is usually caused by a closed water supply valve, a kinked supply hose, a clogged inlet screen, or a faulty water inlet valve. Low household water pressure can also trigger this error.

Alternate codes: F6E1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Verify the water supply valve is fully open

Locate the water shut-off valve under the kitchen sink (or wherever the dishwasher supply line connects). Turn it fully counterclockwise to ensure it is completely open. Run the kitchen faucet to verify adequate water pressure.

If you recently had plumbing work done, the valve may have been turned off and not fully reopened.

2

Check the supply hose for kinks

Pull the dishwasher forward enough to inspect the supply hose running from the shut-off valve to the dishwasher inlet. Look for kinks, sharp bends, or visible damage. Straighten any kinks.

A braided stainless steel supply line is more resistant to kinking than the standard rubber hose.

3

Clean the inlet valve screen

Turn off the water supply valve. Disconnect the supply hose from the dishwasher inlet valve. Inside the valve inlet you will find a small mesh filter screen. Remove it with pliers and rinse it under running water to remove sediment and mineral deposits.

If you have hard water, this screen can clog frequently. Consider installing a whole-house water softener or pre-filter.

4

Test the water inlet valve

If the supply, hose, and screen are all clear, reconnect everything and run a cycle. If the dishwasher still fails to fill, the water inlet valve solenoid may have failed and needs replacement.

Listen for a humming or clicking sound at the valve when the fill cycle starts. If you hear it but no water flows, the valve is electrically active but mechanically stuck.

When to call a professional

If the error persists after checking the supply line, hose, and filter, the water inlet valve likely needs replacement. While a DIY-possible repair, it requires disconnecting water and electrical connections inside the dishwasher.
